Housing Booklet 2024

The purpose of this edition of UC San Diego Housing Booklet is to be transparent, providing UC San Diego students with intentional information as it relates to UC San Diego Off-Campus Housing. This booklet will dive into housing and civic engagement,  elevating common off-campus housing experiences within different aspects of civic duty and participation. Check it out to learn about intentional services available as well as helpful recommendations!

Part 1: Being a Civically Engaged Renter

Interested in learning about the difference between advocacy and activism? The Peer Educators put together a video explaining how the terms contrast. To learn about the housing challenges college students face and how advocacy and activism work together to address housing rights to enact change watch this video about being a civically engaged renter!


 

Part 2: Campus Involvement

Are you interested in getting involved on campus to advocate for yours and your peers’ housing rights? The Peer Educators bring awareness to resources and organizations on campus, highlight past and current student actions, and suggestions of how you can represent yourself to administration to address housing issues. In this video, you will learn about campus involvement.


 

Part 3: Engaged with our Student Movement

Want to learn more about how you can engage with your student government? Associated Students (AS) is your resource to advocate for your housing rights! The Peer Educators highlight the structure of AS, how you can attend meetings/submit written remarks, and current actions the AS Senators are taking to shift attention to affordable housing. In this video, you will learn about being engaged with out student movement.


 

Part 4: Engaged with UC System

The UC system generally offers 2 years of guaranteed housing, but what happens after that? The Peer Educators have provided tips and resources on how to navigate off campus housing and how you can get involved on campus with bringing awareness on housing rights, specifically on the UC system level. Part 5: Engaging with Our Local, City, and County Governments

Why has the housing market changed so drastically here in San Diego? There are many factors that played a role in this issue, such as the San Diego Housing Crisis, pandemic, etc. The Peer Educators acknowledge that it may be hard to navigate off campus housing because of these drastic changes in prices. Watch this video for resources about engaging with our local, city, and county governments.


 

Part 6: Engaging with the State and Federal Government
