Housing Security

What is being “unhoused” or “houselesss”?

Students facing housing challenges exist on a spectrum.

“Housing insecurity/challenges” is an umbrella term, used to describe the degree of housing issues a person may face.

At Basic Needs, we do not use the term “homelessness.” We instead utilize the term “houselessness” because home is not always a physical space, but a secure caring feeling and sense of stability. Housing affordability, housing instability (moving often), and housing quality are examples of issues that fall on the housing security spectrum.

How do I know if myself and/or my fellow students might be having security challenges?

Here are examples of issues that fall on the housing security spectrum:

Housing Affordability

Housing Instability

Housing Quality
