Documents Needed For CalFresh Application
1. Identification
- State ID, Driver’s License, Passport, or Student ID
2. Income Information
- If working: Pay stubs or proof of income from the past 30 days (must include your name).
- Two most recent paystubs are often required
- If they get paid through direct deposit, please take a screenshot of your deposit amount and sign the sworn statement
- If not working: You may not need this section.
3. Housing Information
- Off-campus: A lease agreement with your name, landlord’s name, address, and total rent.
- If you share rent, the lease can show the total amount, not just your portion.

- On-campus: Housing & dining contract (downloadable from HDH under Signature of Tenancy Verification). Visit the HDH Signature of Tenancy Verification Form.
- Form sent back from HDH is what will be sent in for your application
4. Financial Aid Information
- Financial Aid Award Letter (from TSS).
- Log into TSS with UC San Diego credentials
- From landing page, under the "more links-main campus" tab, select "financial aid"
- Log in using UC San Diego credentials
- Select current Academic Year
- Select "view" and/or "print financial aid award confirmation"
- Select the printer friendly version of your award package
- when downloading your package, select the printer icon, to save as a PDF NOT download icon (this will encrypt your file)
- If you received an automated email from DO-NOT-REPLY-UCSD FINAID entitled “Apply for CalFresh” you may upload a PDF version of that document with your financial aid package.
- Cal Grant Students: CSAC Award Letter (emailed by CSAC).
- If a student cannot find CSAC Award Letter, a sworn statement is highly recommended
- Graduate Students: If their department is not listed on TSS, please contact them directly.
- School of Medicine Students: Request from their program’s financial aid office.
5. School Verification
- Get class schedule from TSS (must show their name and the university’s name).
- Log in to TSS and take a screenshot of your homepage that includes your class schedule and your personal identifying information. See here for an example!
6. Local Program that Increases Employability (LPIE)
- Submit with your school verification
- Graduate students: Acceptance Letter with name of program
- Undergraduate students: Degree Audit or dashboard of your TSS that includes your name and major
- Sworn statement highly recommended
7. Sworn Statement
- We highly recommend you fill out the Sworn Statement document and submit it with your CalFresh application. View the Sworn Statement document.
Follow up with the County
If you have yet to receive a timely update regarding your CalFresh case, the CalFresh Outreach Team at UC San Diego can contact the County of San Diego on your behalf once you have signed a Release of Information form. Please attach the completed form to your email and send it to calfresh@ucsd.edu along with your specific inquiry and an outreach assistant will be able to assist you.
What is Release of Information?
