Ebony Watkins (she/her)

Calfresh Program Coordinator

University of Phoenix Master in Business Administration, National University Master in Public Health with a Concentration in Global Health

As the CalFresh Program Coordinator, Ebony Watkins oversees the Food Security CalFresh Program at the UC San Diego Basic Needs Center. Ebony's primary focus is to assist students with their CalFresh Application, which includes the four main service criteria: Application Assistance, Recertification Assistance, CalFresh Eligibility, and Case Inquiries. Students are also assisted with emergency food services such as a Triton Cash through the Emergency Meal Assistance Program or an alternative to fit their unique circumstance.

Before pursuing a career in Higher Education, Ebony served as a soldier in the United States Army Reserve for six years before completing her graduate degree. After completing her contract, she gained employment with the County of San Diego as a Human Service Specialist, processing applications for public assistance services such as CalFresh, Medi-Cal, and CalWorks.

Ebony aims to continue destigmatizing CalFresh, specifically the UC San Diego campus, amongst all communities. By creating a secure environment, it assists students in developing the visibility and access needed to combat food insecurity.
